Fire and air quality agencies responding to increased calls about outdoor burning

Spokane Clean Air, along with local fire protection agencies, are experiencing an increase in calls about possible illegal outdoor burning. Warmer spring weather after a long winter has residents outdoors doing yard work and spring cleaning.

Together, we are reminding residents that burning garbage, including construction material, and the use of burn barrels are prohibited.

Burning for disposal, including natural vegetation, is not allowed in most areas of Spokane County, with some exceptions.

Backyard “recreational fires” are allowed throughout Spokane County as long as requirements are followed. Outdoor burning is typically restricted by fire officials during the dry, hot months due to fire danger.

Review the full outdoor burning rules, based on type of burning, on our outdoor burning webpage. Please call us if you have any questions about the rules, (509) 477-4727.
