Air is a precious resource

With every breath we take, our lungs are exposed to the world around us, filtering over 11,000 liters of air each day.

Breathing polluted air can harm our health by inflaming and damaging lung tissue. This weakens our lung’s ability to fight off contaminants and infections.

Thanks to decades of progress and technological advances, the Spokane region has good air quality on most days of the year. There are days, however, when our air quality fails to meet health-based standards. This most often occurs in summer due to wildfire smoke.
