Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency (Spokane Clean Air) recently partnered with the Spokane Aquifer Joint Board (SAJB) to create a Virtual Science Fair Extravaganza. The Virtual Science Fair is focused on Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) activities for students in 1st – 6th grades.
“Fostering environmental stewardship is as vital as ever,” said Stephanie May, Spokane Clean Air’s Public Information Specialist. “We’re finding new ways of connecting with students and reaching out over many digital platforms. The Virtual Science Fair Extravaganza was a natural fit.”
Spokane Clean Air’s booth boasts a variety of videos and activities to engage students about air quality in Spokane County.
The Virtual Science Fair is a collaboration with nine (9) regional agencies and organizations. The Virtual Science Fair is our contribution to environmental education and awareness for area students since COVID 19 suspended in person School Science/ STEAM Nights and Community Events.
“The Virtual Science Fair is free and open to all. It is a great option for on-line learning experiences,” said SAJB Program Manager, Tonilee Hanson. “Currently there are 13 booths with a total of 42 different videos and STEAM activities and many more activities are being planned. Students can earn a badge for completing each booth and they can join the Spokane EnviroKids Club.”
Partner agencies and organizations include: KSPS Public Television, Master Composters / Recyclers, National Weather Service, Spokane Conservation District, Spokane County Water Resources, Spokane EnviroKids, Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, Spokane Regional Solid Waste System, and Water Wise Spokane.
