Keep an eye on the AQI!

While wildfires can occur at any time, the massive, regional fires that create extended periods of unhealthy air quality in the Spokane area most often occur during August and into mid-September. Here is a running chart of days that failed clean air health standard for fine particles of smoke, going back to 1999 when the standard was established.

Because smoke is harmful to our health, it’s a good idea to stay diligent and keep your eye on the AQI. Smoke contains harmful particles and gases that everyone should reduce their exposure too when possible.

Stay Informed: Check the current air quality hourly. You can also subscribe to receive an email or text alert of current and forecast air quality conditions at EPA’s EnviroFlash webpage.
