Air Quality Report Card for 2020

Had it not been for the September wildfire smoke, the Spokane area was on track for good air quality in 2020.

Aside from the seven smoke-filled days, Spokane County’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was in the good range on 309 days and moderate on 50 days in 2020. This is the best in the last several years.

The AQI is a nationally-standardized method to report air quality. Concentrations of air pollutants are converted to a scale, with 100 equal to each pollutant’s health-based standard. The pollutant with the highest AQI is the one reported.

AQI categories of good and moderate meets the national, health-based air pollutant standards. To learn more about the AQI, and to subscribe to AQI text or email alerts, visit AirNow.gov
