It all adds up to cleaner air is a national initiative being implemented at a local level. The initiative promotes actions that we, as individuals, can make that collectively "all adds up to cleaner air!"

In Spokane, the It all adds up to cleaner air campaign is a year-round effort being spearheaded by the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency (Spokane Clean Air). Campaign information and messages are updated to reflect the seasonal air quality issues. The program has four key components:

  • Worksite Participation -- This spring and summer Spokane Clean Air is partnering with the Commute Trip Reduction Office to promote the clean air message with the Travel Green campaign this spring.  One hundered and thirty of the area's largest employers have signed up to promote the clean air and commute alternative message. These worksites are helping to improve air quality by raising awareness among their employees.

  • Clean Air Network —  A free email notification system that sends emails to organizations who subscribe to the program only when the Air Quality Index category changes (green/good; yellow/moderate; orange/unhealthy for sesitive groups, etc.) and provides tips/messages related to current air quality conditions.  To sign up for the network, send us an email with your name, organization, and email address.

  • Community Partnerships — to bolster the presence of the It All Adds Up messages in our community, we rely on local partnerships. This spring, Spokane Clean Air staff are working to implement the nationally recognized No Idle Zone program at schools, daycares, and businesses with drive thru's throughout Spokane County.

  • Media Partnerships — another tool to reach citizens in via our local media, both in the area of news and promotions.

Air Quality Email Notification

The American Lung Association of Washington (ALAW) operates a free email notification system for the subscribers, called the Breathe Easy Network. The Network is a tool to give residents of the Northwest fast, accurate notification when air quality has deteriorated and may affect health-sensitive people. For more information about the Network, or to sign up, click on the Breathe Easy Network link or call the local office of the ALAW at 325-6516.
